AGNOS kernels (4.9, CONFIG_NF_TABLES not set — verified in upstream AGNOS
boot image) cannot run NetworkManager's shared-mode firewall rules, so
tethered clients get DHCP but no WAN access.
Idempotently apply masquerade/forward rules via iptables-legacy on every
hotspot activation path (UI toggle, autoconnect fallback, boot restore),
replacing a manually re-installed systemd service after each AGNOS update.
Move the fork-specific diagnostics out of the stock CarOutput schema and into StarPilot reserved messaging. Preserve the legacy saturation fallback when custom diagnostics are unavailable or stale.

Radar bug fixed
Promote HONDA_CRV_5G after replaying a StarPilot route with active Bosch-A object frames across multiple segments. Add explicit CR-V DBC wiring and availability coverage while leaving every other unverified Bosch-A platform gated off.
Co-authored-by: JamesL787 <jamezelle1@gmail.com>
Keep the Bosch-A lead probability filter cadence change limited to the verified Honda Bosch-A path. Preserve the existing radar timestep for every other platform and add regression coverage for the gate and both timing paths.
Co-authored-by: JamesL787 <jamezelle1@gmail.com>
is_bosch_a_radar_car() and its downstream handling in radard.py never
landed alongside the radar decoder (interface.py/values.py/radar_interface.py)
-- without it, the newly-decoded Bosch-A radar points feed into radard's
generic path, which assumes the wrong Kalman filter timestep and is missing
a real staleness/freshness gate this radar's actual cadence needs.
Ports (unmodified in behavior, only renamed to match this repo's
HONDA_BOSCH_A / HONDA_BOSCH_A_RADAR_VERIFIED naming instead of "civic_bosch"):
- Kalman filter dt selected from the radar's real ~15Hz cadence
(HONDA_BOSCH_A_RADAR_TS), not the ~20Hz model-cycle default
- measurement_update gating so a duplicate liveTracks payload (radar runs
slower than the model loop) isn't absorbed twice by the KF
- a "preferred track" continuity path: a previously-selected lead stays
selected through ordinary model-probability fluctuations as long as it's
still coherent, instead of re-arbitrating from scratch every cycle
- staleness detection with two independent triggers (a better-scoring
challenger track sustained over several cycles, or gross absolute-range
disagreement with the model sustained over several cycles) that drops a
stale preferred track rather than holding it indefinitely
- honda_bosch_a_low_speed_radar_lead_sane(), requiring a few real sweeps
before a radar-only low-speed takeover
Tested on the branch this was developed on (109/109 relevant tests pass);
this port is a mechanical, unmodified transplant onto this repo's current
radard.py -- worth a run through this repo's own test suite before merge.

Ports the 16-slot Bosch-A object-bank radar decoder (16 slots x 4 main frames
+ 1 aux frame each) and enables it behind a HondaBoschARadar toggle (default
on) for the full HONDA_BOSCH_A harness category: N-Box, Accord, Civic (incl.
Diesel), CR-V, CR-V Hybrid, Acura RDX, Insight, and Honda e -- 10 platforms
total, derived as HONDA_BOSCH - HONDA_BOSCH_RADARLESS - HONDA_BOSCH_CANFD -
HONDA_BOSCH_ALT_RADAR.
RX-only: never transmits on the radar bus, so it takes no CAN authority.
Factory AEB/CMBS/FCW stay live as long as stock longitudinal remains in
control; enabling openpilot longitudinal (alpha) disables them regardless
of this toggle, via the existing UDS CommunicationControl call in
CarInterface.init() -- documented consistently now via a new HondaCarDocs
Footnote.EXP_LONG and matching comments on all 10 platform configs.
86 new tests for the decoder (gate-open/closed coverage for every affected
platform) plus the existing 19 in test_honda.py all pass.

The driver monitoring sound refactor introduced AudibleAlert.preAlert
for the driverDistracted1 pre-warning, but it was never added to the
alert volume controller's volume_map. Unmapped sounds fall through to
the 1.01 auto-volume sentinel, so setting Distracted Driver volume to
Muted silenced promptDistracted but the pre-warning kept playing at
auto volume.
preAlert is only used by driverDistracted1, so it follows
PromptDistractedVolume like the rest of the distraction alert chain.

Adapt the lane-centering implementation from PR #74 by @jc01rho.
Keep controls in Galaxy developer settings, add confidence and geometry gates, preserve E2E path authority, and reset all related offsets through Safe Mode.
Latch entry direction instead of comparing to the command's live sign,
which broke once the command crossed zero during a curve's larger
arrest swing. This will prevent overshoot on curves.
Blinker turn desire fed the model a turnLeft/turnRight input below lane-change
speed, inflating model_length so the car rolled past stop lines. Gate it in
desire_helper on prior-frame starpilotPlan.redLight/forcingStop/stopSignConfirmed
until standstill, then release so the model still turns through. "Stop first,
then turn."
When using the blinker coming up to a turn and the car near standstill or stops the model goes blind, but before it does comma will now remember what it was trying to do and continue going that direction. Manually moving the wheel or cancelling turn signal will undo this. Turns will initiate at a lower speed.
Send EBCMFrictionBrakeCmd (0x315) where the EBCM receives it: SDGM+SASCM cars
off the SASCM's camera-bus (bus2) leg, bare SDGM on the powertrain bus. Whitelist
0x315 on the camera bus in GM_CAM_LONG_TX_MSGS. Requires a panda rebuild.
Add a StarPilot vehicle toggle that selects alternate Panda firmware for Hyundai/Kia/Genesis CAN-FD EVs. The firmware keeps the HKG CAN bus active while Panda is in power save and treats the app climate-active frame, bus 1 address 0x384 with byte 3 nonzero, as a Panda boot wake source without publishing it as CAN ignition.
Wire the toggle through StarPilot vehicle settings, Galaxy device settings, parameter definitions, and pandad firmware selection. Disabling the toggle selects the default Panda firmware again.
Tested on a Kia EV9 and 2023 Kia EV6. EV9 remote climate active used 0x384 byte 3 equal to 0x01; EV6 remote climate active used 0x0a. Both stopped/off states observed byte 3 equal to 0x00. Toggle-off negative testing on EV9 saw the remote climate frame on CAN but pandaStates.ignitionCan stayed false. Toggle-on testing verified the active Panda signature matched panda_h7_hkg_remote.bin.signed. Follow-up testing changed the HKG path to wake-only after remote climate caused partial-car fingerprinting and Dashcam Mode; wake-only firmware was built, flashed, and verified on both devices.
US 2019 Buick LaCrosse factory LKA operates only 60-180 km/h. Split it
from BUICK_LACROSSE_ASCM into its own variant so minSteerSpeed can be
raised above the EPS LKA-activation threshold (~12.5 m/s), preventing the
"LKAS Fault: Restart the car to engage" on deceleration. Manual
fingerprint selection only; base LaCrosse platforms unchanged.
Prior commit inteneded for blinker to veto force stop from activating during a turn/curves.
If blinker was on, it was vetoing actual force stops. This tweaks is so the veto only works
on actual turns, or if force stop was already on. So force stop will stop, then allow turn without reactivating force stop.
Move the UI core-affinity pin to after MainWindow init so startup and
restart recovery can use all cores (pinning before init starved the
restarting UI on the contended little cores, stretching recovery from
~30s to minutes). Move selfdrived off the saturated core 4 onto core 5
so its 100 Hz loop is no longer starved, eliminating selfdrivedLagging.
Verified over a full drive: selfdrivedLagging=0, core4/core5 sustained
>=95% only 0.3%/1.2% of the time, UI restart recovery ~15s with the
device staying engaged, radar tracking unaffected.
Force Stop (cem_path) was missing a tracking_lead guard, causing it to activate behind stopped leads at red lights and stop signs — stopping the car far short of the lead instead of letting ACC handle following distance. Added and not self.starpilot_planner.tracking_lead to cem_path, matching the guard already present on dash_path.
F1 — Toggle cache (starpilot_annotated_camera.h + .cc): Added 25 typed cached members; all 32 starpilot_toggles.value() calls in paint code replaced with the cached versions. All reads happen once at the top of updateState() per frame. The only surviving raw call is in mousePressEvent (intentional — touch is rare, not paint-path).
F2 — HUD gradient hoist (selfdrive/ui/qt/onroad/hud.cc): Header gradient is now a static const built once via lambda, no allocation per frame.
Build, flash, and verify that toggling compass, simple_mode, radar_tracks etc. from settings still take effect live without a restart.
D2 — update() in starpilot_onroad.cc now only fires when at least one overlay (showBlindspot, showSignal, showSteering, showFPS) is active. ~30–60 wasted repaints/sec eliminated when all overlays are off.
E4 — Holiday theme check reordered so current_holiday_theme != "stock" (cheapest) is first. Default is stock, so the rest of the chain never evaluates on a normal non-holiday drive.
E7 — paintSteeringTorqueBorder no longer rebuilds the QLinearGradient and computes lighter(120)/setAlpha/5 setColorAt calls every frame. The gradient is now built once in resizeEvent and reused. The per-frame work is now just the two geometry calculations and fillRect.
E5/E6/E8 — Audited clean: all remaining params_memory.put calls are event-driven (button presses, random events), no hot-path logging exists in the UI code, and all QTimers are event-driven or single-shot offroad dialogs.
Wave A (pure refactors):
A2: nnff toggle moved to front of NNFF check — kills ~100 IPC reads/sec when NNFF disabled
A4: 3 filters now use update_alpha() instead of being recreated — ~60 allocs/sec eliminated
Wave B (write reduction):
B1: CEStatus only writes on state transitions (+ E3 folded in: extracted ce_write_value local at both sites). Reset path added in the manual-override branch. ~19 writes/sec saved during cruise
B2: GPS position only persists when compass is enabled AND bearing shifts >0.5° (+ E1 folded in: json.dumps inside the gate). ~95% of writes eliminated on highway
Wave C (polling throttles):
C1: Onscreen distance button reads at 10 Hz instead of 100 Hz — ~90 IPC reads/sec eliminated. Wheel button unaffected
C2: SpeedLimitAccepted IPC read throttled to 5 Hz via existing _slc_adopt_counter. Wheel accel still instant
C3: Lane width numpy calls at 5 Hz instead of 20 Hz — ~300 allocs/sec eliminated. Counter resets when speed drops below threshold so values are fresh on re-entry
Issue: limit_accel_in_turns breakpoint table started at 20 m/s, causing np.interp to clamp a_total_max to 1.7 m/s² for all speeds below 20 m/s (~45 mph), overriding acceleration profiles during the entire low-speed pull.
Fix: Extended _A_TOTAL_MAX_BP down to 0 m/s with a 3.5 m/s² ceiling, matching the maximum ACCEL_MAX.
Turn protection still works correctly since a_y grows with v² and naturally consumes the budget in actual turns.
CC main button now accepts the current best speed limit source, even if new speed limit source is not flashing.
It snaps cruise speed to match (+ your offset), in either direction.
It works even before engaging longitudinal, so you can pre-set speed limit.
Won't interfere with cars using CC main for Always-On Lateral.
Fix three SLC bugs:
1. Auto-accept limits when not engaged to keep previous_target current.
2. Gate Vision out of the limits dict when not a configured priority slot.
3. Replace mapdOut fallback with 0 when filler has no data to prevent stale OSM speed limits from leaking in.
Force Stop 2.0 — Smoother deceleration curve. On cars with the ADAS stop-sign signal, stops are even more confident; cars without dashboard stop sign signal will also benefit from a new deceleration curve and MPC handoff.
Toggle off = stock behavior.
Lane Change Smoothing — single 1-10.
At 10 (default) behavior is stock-identical;
Lower values slow the maneuver toward ~8 s by scaling jerk and lateral accel limits during the lane change state.
Time-max abort window extends proportionally so slow settings can't trigger a mid-maneuver abort.

### Local-to-upstream map
| StarPilot area | Upstream lineage | What StarPilot changed |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `starpilot/car/ford/lateral.py` | `human_turn.py`, `lateral_curv_ext.py`, and `values_ext.py` at the reference snapshot above; earlier StarPilot revisions also adapted `lateral_angle_ext.py` | Consolidated the runtime implementation on the extended-curvature strategy, integrated StarPilot Params, and added live-delay curvature lookahead and local tuning behavior. |
| `starpilot/car/ford/fordcan.py` | `fordcan_ext.py` and the extended-lateral protocol, especially `8f8d6d15f` | Reduced the extension to the curvature CAN constructors used by StarPilot and adapted it to the local controller interface. |
| `opendbc_repo/opendbc/car/ford/` | Ford controller/state/interface/radar/platform changes in the `bp-7.0` snapshot | Integrated the changes directly into StarPilot's opendbc layout instead of retaining sunnypilot mixins; subsequent fixes and behavior differ by file. |
| `opendbc_repo/opendbc/safety/modes/ford.h` and Ford safety tests | BluePilot panda enforcement for four-signal curvature and angle-primary control, especially `8f8d6d15f`, plus shadow-curvature work | Retained the extended-curvature checks, removed runtime path-angle selection, and continued adding local regression coverage. |
| Ford Params and settings surfaces | BluePilot's curvature tuning concepts | Renamed and implemented in StarPilot's native Params/Galaxy architecture; no BluePilot or sunnypilot UI classes were retained. |
The local code has materially diverged, but the first four rows remain derivative in design and in
parts of their implementation. Future ports should cite the exact upstream commit in the importing
commit and at the relevant source boundary; when history can be retained cleanly, use a merge,
subtree, or cherry-pick with origin metadata rather than a single squashed attribution.
## Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis support adapted from sunnypilot
Portions of StarPilot's HKG angle steering, CAN integration, panda safety enforcement, safety tests,
firmware fingerprints, and cruise-button management are adapted from sunnypilot. Some upstream HKG
authorship is retained in StarPilot's Git history, and StarPilot commit
Mark McCallister, Discountchubbs, and other sunnypilot contributors** supplied vehicle ports,
fingerprints, firmware data, safety-limit updates, and related integration represented in the
adapted HKG support.
This list identifies contributors found during the repository, commit, and blame audit. The
sunnypilot repositories and their Git histories remain the authoritative record and may identify
additional contributors.
### Local-to-upstream map
| StarPilot area | Upstream lineage | What StarPilot changed |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `opendbc_repo/opendbc/car/hyundai/carcontroller.py` | Angle controller and driver-override work in `sunnypilot/opendbc``hkg-angle-steering-2025` | Integrated the controller into StarPilot's opendbc layout and added substantial local longitudinal, smoothing, recovery, and platform behavior. |
| `opendbc_repo/opendbc/car/hyundai/hyundaicanfd.py`, `interface.py`, and `values.py` | Angle commands, signal selection, safety flags, limits, and platform integration from the angle branch | Combined later upstream changes with StarPilot flags, Params, platform tuning, and local CAN/CAN-FD behavior. |
| `opendbc_repo/opendbc/safety/modes/hyundai_canfd.h` and its tests | Angle-command safety enforcement and regression tests from the angle branch | Extended and reorganized the safety mode and tests for StarPilot's current supported modes. |
| `opendbc_repo/opendbc/car/hyundai/fingerprints.py` and HKG platform data | sunnypilot HKG extension/fingerprint history on `master` plus angle-branch vehicle ports | Flattened extension data into the local opendbc tree and continued adding and updating platforms. |
| HKG cruise-button management and settings integration | sunnypilot ICBM/CSLC concepts and implementation history, including `862828ad6` and `2277e3d49` | Adapted the feature to StarPilot/FrogPilot controls and settings; later revisions changed or removed portions of the original integration. |
The current implementation is not a wholesale copy of either reference snapshot and has diverged
substantially. Its HKG angle-control and supporting safety architecture nevertheless remain
derivative in design and in identifiable portions of the implementation. The applicable upstream
notices are preserved in [THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md](THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md).
## Policy for future third-party ports
Before publishing a third-party port:
1. Read every repository-level and file-level license that may cover the source. Stop and ask the
rightsholder when the terms or their scope conflict.
2. Record the repository URL, exact commit SHA, source paths/symbols, authors found in the relevant
history, and the local destination in the importing commit and this file.
3. Preserve required copyright and license notices verbatim. Reorganization, translation, and
AI-assisted rewriting do not remove source provenance.
4. Retain authorship/history with a merge, subtree, or `cherry-pick -x` when practical. For a true
adaptation, keep the local adapter as commit author and use an `Adapted-from:` trailer and source
comments; do not add `Co-authored-by:` for a person without their agreement.
5. Describe material local deviations and make clear that upstream contributors do not support or
endorse the downstream version.

[openpilot](http://github.com/commaai/openpilot) is an open source driver assistance system. Currently, it performs the functions of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) for selected Honda, Toyota, Acura, Lexus, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia. It's about on par with Tesla Autopilot and GM Super Cruise, and better than [all other manufacturers](http://www.thedrive.com/tech/5707/the-war-for-autonomous-driving-part-iii-us-vs-germany-vs-japan).
**StarPilot** is a custom fork of [comma.ai's openpilot](https://comma.ai/openpilot),
an open source driver assistance system.
The openpilot codebase has been written to be concise and to enable rapid prototyping. We look forward to your contributions - improving real vehicle automation has never been easier.
Please see [https://wiki.firestar.link](https://wiki.firestar.link) for hardware lists,
installation guides, and software configuration.

In Progress Cars
------
- All TSS-P Toyota with Steering Assist and LSS-P Lexus with Steering Assist or Lane Keep Assist.
- All Hyundai with SmartSense.
- All Kia, Genesis with SCC and LKAS.
- All Chrysler, Jeep, Fiat with Adaptive Cruise Control and LaneSense.
- All Subaru with EyeSight.
How can I add support for my car?
------
If your car has adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, you are in luck. Using a [panda](https://comma.ai/shop/products/panda-obd-ii-dongle/) and [cabana](https://community.comma.ai/cabana/), you can understand how to make your car drive by wire.
We've written guides for [Brand](https://medium.com/@comma_ai/how-to-write-a-car-port-for-openpilot-7ce0785eda84) and [Model](https://medium.com/@comma_ai/openpilot-port-guide-for-toyota-models-e5467f4b5fe6) ports. These guides might help you after you have the basics figured out.
- BMW, Audi, Volvo, and Mercedes all use [FlexRay](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlexRay) and can be supported after [FlexRay support](https://github.com/commaai/openpilot/pull/463) is merged.
- We put time into a Ford port, but the steering has a 10 second cutout limitation that makes it unusable.
- The 2016-2017 Honda Accord uses a custom signaling protocol for steering that's unlikely to ever be upstreamed.

User Data / chffr Account / Crash Reporting
------
By default, openpilot creates an account and includes a client for chffr, our dashcam app. We use your data to train better models and improve openpilot for everyone.
It's open source software, so you are free to disable it if you wish.
It logs the road facing camera, CAN, GPS, IMU, magnetometer, thermal sensors, crashes, and operating system logs.
The user facing camera is only logged if you explicitly opt-in in settings.
It does not log the microphone.
By using it, you agree to [our privacy policy](https://community.comma.ai/privacy.html). You understand that use of this software or its related services will generate certain types of user data, which may be logged and stored at the sole discretion of comma.ai. By accepting this agreement, you grant an irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to comma.ai for the use of this data.
Testing on PC
------
Check out [openpilot-tools](https://github.com/commaai/openpilot-tools): lots of tools you can use to replay driving data, test and develop openpilot from your pc.
Also, within openpilot there is a rudimentary infrastructure to run a basic simulation and generate a report of openpilot's behavior in different longitudinal control scenarios.
```bash
# Requires working docker
./run_docker_tests.sh
```
Contributing
------
We welcome both pull requests and issues on [github](http://github.com/commaai/openpilot). Bug fixes and new car ports encouraged.
We also have a [bounty program](https://comma.ai/bounties.html).

Licensing
------
openpilot is released under the MIT license. Some parts of the software are released under other licenses as specified.
Any user of this software shall indemnify and hold harmless Comma.ai, Inc. and its directors, officers, employees, agents, stockholders, affiliates, subcontractors and customers from and against all allegations, claims, actions, suits, demands, damages, liabilities, obligations, losses, settlements, judgments, costs and expenses (including without limitation attorneys’ fees and costs) which arise out of, relate to or result from any use of this software by user.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLYING WITH LOCAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS.
[chffrplus](https://github.com/commaai/chffrplus) is an open source dashcam.
This is the shipping reference software for the comma EON Dashcam DevKit. It keeps many of the niceities of [openpilot](https://github.com/commaai/openpilot), like high quality sensors, great camera, and good autostart and stop. Though unlike openpilot, it cannot control your car. chffrplus can interface with your car through a [panda](https://shop.comma.ai/products/panda-obd-ii-dongle), but just like our dashcam app [chffr](https://getchffr.com/), it is read only.
It integrates with the rest of the comma ecosystem, so you can view your drives on the [chffr](https://getchffr.com/) app for Android or iOS, and reverse engineer your car with [cabana](https://community.comma.ai/cabana/?demo=1).
Hardware
------
Right now chffrplus supports the [EON Dashcam DevKit](https://shop.comma.ai/products/eon-dashcam-devkit) for hardware to run on.
Install chffrplus on a EON device by entering ``https://chffrplus.comma.ai`` during NEOS setup.

## Applicable upstream license notices
The upstream repositories and branches identified above publish both `LICENSE` and `LICENSE.md`.
Their READMEs point to `LICENSE` for openpilot licensing, while some extension files point to
`LICENSE.md`. Because the scope of those two notices is not unambiguous, StarPilot preserves both
and treats the more restrictive notice conservatively for upstream-derived material. This is a
record of the published notices, not a legal conclusion about their scope.

For commercial, for-profit, or closed-source use, consult the upstream notice and obtain any

cereal is the messaging system for openpilot. It uses [msgq](https://github.com/commaai/msgq) as a pub/sub backend, and [Cap'n proto](https://capnproto.org/capnp-tool.html) for serialization of the structs.
## Messaging Spec
You'll find the message types in [log.capnp](log.capnp). It uses [Cap'n proto](https://capnproto.org/capnp-tool.html) and defines one struct called `Event`.
All `Events` have a `logMonoTime` and a `valid`. Then a big union defines the packet type.
### Best Practices
- **All fields must describe quantities in SI units**, unless otherwise specified in the field name.
- In the context of the message they are in, field names should be completely unambiguous.
- All values should be easy to plot and be human-readable with minimal parsing.
### Maintaining backwards-compatibility
When making changes to the messaging spec you want to maintain backwards-compatibility, such that old logs can
be parsed with a new version of cereal. Adding structs and adding members to structs is generally safe, most other
things are not. Read more details [here](https://capnproto.org/language.html).
### Custom forks
Forks of [openpilot](https://github.com/commaai/openpilot) might want to add things to the messaging
spec, however this could conflict with future changes made in mainline cereal/openpilot. Rebasing against mainline openpilot
then means breaking backwards-compatibility with all old logs of your fork. So we added reserved events in
[custom.capnp](custom.capnp) that we will leave empty in mainline cereal/openpilot. **If you only modify those, you can ensure your
fork will remain backwards-compatible with all versions of mainline openpilot and your fork.**
